Time flies when you're having fun! And oh what fun our Bug-a-lug is!! It's hard not to love those big ears and droopy lips, but even his quirky traits have us giggling and him melting our hearts each day. Just like human baby parents, we talk about our fur-child at gatherings and take him along just about everywhere we go. He's such a jolly little guy and gets on with everyone, humans and animals alike. Although he still torments his cat brother, Mogli! Thank goodness all the baby needley teeth have been replaced by the adult ones, and the discovery of squeaky tennis balls! He snores like an absolute champion and loves to cuddle right up beside you when he's sleeping. We love the Buggie, he makes each day just that much happier just by being part of our lives!
I have one of the best subjects and models! The flowers started to bloom and Mogli started to pose. I love photographing him and seeing him through different angles and perspectives. He's a natural, needing little instruction or coaxing... He is such a poser! But I am thankful, because he encourages me to try new things and see things differently each time. My amazing fur-child, secret teacher and avid bird watcher.
Another post about my infamous travelling cat. He flew in a plane to a new world, and watching him explore his new land and territory has been inspiring.
I was so nervous, cautious and hesitant about him coming here, afraid that I'd finally gotten him here and he would lose his was, or just find more love in another home and run away...such a paranoid cat mommy.
But he's a wonder to watch while he's exploring, not afraid of anything. Back home in SA, he never had other cats around, he never encountered other cats. He had three Jack Russell's that respected him and a Staffie cross Daxie that loved to play with him and run circles around him! So the end result being, he has no idea what other cats are, and I assume Momo thinks they are strange looking dogs.
There is a resident cat that has been here for a while, Stompie. She has a short tail and little voice. Momo is trying in vein to be friends with her, but she just hisses at him and he stares at her and can't understand, so swishes off to carry on doing what ever he was doing. We also have a stray, squint Siamese with a deep meow that comes waltzing through the garden, whom Momo follows around when he's here...it's more like a fascinated stalking, and I'm sure Mogli is just trying to understand what this cat is yowling out.
Just as a mother documents the stages of their child's life, I try to capture the life story of my fur-baby. The images are from some of his first wanderings in his new space and into the garden. And yes, he also wears moustaches on his attire!
Living in sunny Durban, South Africa all my life, I never truly understood what it was to be cold, or experienced the white fluffy stuff, snow. Oh, I've seen the torrential Summer down pours flooding our swimming pool and hail the size of golf balls taking over the garden, but never little flakes of white drifting from the sky. I tried many times to visit the Drakensberg in Winter, in the hopes of being there at the right time, but alas it was never meant to be. And now it still seems to be eluding me, even though I am now living in the United Kingdom in the peak of Winter, it is hovering in the very far North, while I am way down South!
When I travelled to the UK in December 2012, I arrived the day the white frost started. It only stuck around for two days, but man, that's what sold me on coming to live here. It may not have been snow, but it was beautiful...enchanting and magical! I had seen frost before, but not like this, never white frost. It clung to the leaves and twigs, and transformed all the delicate dead of Winter into something mesmerising . But as beautiful as it was, it wasn't there to last, only to capture my heart and allow me to capture it, to be shared.
I cannot wait to see snow, while others more experienced in the horrors it brings, think I'm crazy to wish for it. But if it still doesn't come to me, I will go to it next year...with a snow
